Das Projekt : Project Description
”Remembering for the Future“
Project Description
”In the spring of 1945, the National Socialist dictatorship,
unsurpassed in its cruelty, came to an end in this country. In our
district, it had claimed many victims. Hundreds of innocent people
from the Mariahilf district were deported and murdered for racial,
political, religious or other ideological reasons, including their
sexual orientation. Permanent objects of memory will created to
honor the memory of these people and to oppose similar trends in
the present and future.
This project will be carried out by experts, representatives
of groups persecuted by the Nazi regime, and inhabitants of the
district (especially apprentices trained in this district). Where
appropriate and necessary, pedagogical and especially
anthropological support will be provided. One aspect of
participation will take the form of private people, companies,
institutions, etc., having the opportunity to sponsor one or more
objects, and/or the pedagogical and anthropological support.
A diverse cultural program will deal with the relevance of
historical events on the present and the future. Information and
discussion events will be carried out in a number of locations in
the district. Events at schools and cultural events will primarily
address young people. In addition to the emphasis on history,
contemporary forms of racism, xenophobia and the suppression of
minorities will be addressed.”
